Getting admitted to Upstate’s ER in Syracuse? The virtual nurse will see you now
At Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, patients entering the ER now have the option of beginning their admission or discharge process via a “virtual nurse”—a registered nurse who works remotely to handle tasks like assessments, documentation, education, and care-plan setup. The system reportedly saves around 30-45 minutes per patient in the admission/discharge process and has freed bedside nurses from more than 1,400 hours of administrative work, letting them focus more on direct patient care. The initiative is part of Upstate’s broader move toward innovative “virtual nursing” support to improve efficiency and patient experience.
