Virtual Nurses at Rady Children’s Hospital
Rady Children’s Hospital’s Virtual Nursing Program uses in-room video technology to connect patients and families with experienced Rady Children’s nurses for real-time virtual visits, enhancing support without replacing bedside caregivers. It started as a pilot in a multispecialty unit and has expanded to the emergency department and neuroscience unit, helping with admissions, discharges, routine check-ins, and communication. Patients, families, and staff have responded positively, reporting improved efficiency and satisfaction, and the hospital plans to continue growing the program into fiscal year 2027.
